Description

Croton ‘Picasso’s Paintbrush’ (Codiaeum variegatum) is a dazzling tropical shrub that lives up to its artistic name, featuring an explosion of color and fine, narrow leaves that resemble the strokes of a painter’s brush. This variety stands out from traditional crotons due to its uniquely slender foliage and the vivid palette of red, yellow, green, orange, and even hints of purple or pink, all appearing on a single plant. Native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, Croton ‘Picasso’s Paintbrush’ prefers warm temperatures, high humidity, and bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant coloration. It grows compactly, usually reaching 2 to 3 feet tall, making it perfect for smaller garden spaces, mixed tropical plantings, or decorative containers. It can also be grown indoors as a striking houseplant, provided it gets enough light and humidity. While low-maintenance, it does require regular watering (without waterlogging) and benefits from occasional feeding during the growing season. Like other crotons, it may drop leaves if moved or exposed to sudden changes in temperature or light. With its playful form and rainbow-colored leaves, ‘Picasso’s Paintbrush’ adds artistic flair and visual excitement to any indoor or outdoor tropical setting.
