Description

Cestrum ‘Yellow’ (Cestrum parqui), often referred to as Willow-leaved Jessamine or Chilean Jessamine, is a vigorous, woody shrub native to Chile and valued for its striking yellow-green, tubular flowers and intense evening fragrance. Growing up to 2–3 meters tall, it features slender, lance-shaped leaves that give the plant a somewhat airy appearance. The flowers typically bloom from late spring through autumn, releasing a sweet yet powerful scent that is especially noticeable at dusk and into the night, attracting moths and other nocturnal pollinators. Cestrum parqui thrives in full sun to partial shade, prefers well-drained soils, and is tolerant of heat and drought once established. Though a beautiful addition to tropical or Mediterranean-style gardens, it can spread aggressively in some regions and is considered invasive in parts of Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so caution is advised in gardens with pets or children. With proper management, it offers both ornamental appeal and sensory richness.
