Description

Cassia ‘Golden Shower’ (Cassia fistula), commonly known as the Golden Shower Tree, is a deciduous tropical tree celebrated for its breathtaking floral display. Native to the Indian subcontinent, it typically grows 10–15 meters tall and develops a rounded, spreading canopy. During late spring and early summer, the tree becomes covered in long, pendulous clusters of bright golden-yellow flowers, often blooming in such abundance that the leaves are nearly obscured. These fragrant blossoms attract bees and butterflies, enhancing pollinator activity in the landscape. The tree’s compound leaves add a soft, delicate texture, and after flowering, it produces long, cylindrical seed pods. Cassia fistula thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, showing good drought tolerance once established. Widely planted in tropical and subtropical regions, it is a national symbol in Thailand and beloved for its ornamental value in streetscapes, gardens, and public spaces. While visually stunning, it does shed its leaves seasonally, making it best suited to areas where leaf drop is not an issue.
