Description

Caladium spp., commonly known simply as Caladium, is a group of tropical foliage plants native to South and Central America, especially Brazil. These plants are treasured for their large, heart- or arrow-shaped leaves, which come in a dazzling array of colors and patterns—ranging from solid white or pink to vibrant mixes of green, red, and marbled veining. Caladiums are grown almost exclusively for their ornamental foliage, as their flowers are small and insignificant. They thrive in warm, humid environments and prefer partial to full shade, making them perfect for brightening darker corners of the garden or adding a splash of color indoors. Caladiums grow from tubers and are typically planted in spring, with leaves emerging as temperatures rise. In cooler climates, they are often treated as annuals or their tubers are dug up and stored indoors during winter. With minimal care and striking visual appeal, Caladiums are a popular choice for containers, borders, and shaded garden beds.
