African Oil Palm (Elaeis Guieenis)
The African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) is a tropical plant native to West and Central Africa, known for its oil-rich fruit. The palm produces both palm oil and palm kernel oil, widely used in food, cosmetics, and biofuels. While it thrives in humid tropical climates, mainly in Southeast Asia, its cultivation has led to deforestation and biodiversity loss. Despite these environmental concerns, efforts toward sustainable production, such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), aim to address the issues while benefiting economies through high oil yields.
